‘”I want to make art for a living” and other unrealistic dreams

When you say you want to make art for a living some people will react the same as when as a child you wanted to be a prince/princes/rock-star. “Yeah, that is great, but maybe you should choose something more realistic” or “But what is your back up plan”
I’ve heard these things before.

I’m Sofie and I’m 19 years old. I live in the Netherlands and I want to make art for a living. Life is though for those who choose to go into arts. On this blog I want to share my journey to maybe making it as an artist!

I have one year to set up something that can create income. I don’t want to be rich, I just want to make enough to make a living. Hopefully some of that will come from selling original artwork. I want to sell online but I’m also looking in to selling my work on conventions or through other means.

Setting up a business is never easy. I hope I can inspire other people to join me on this journey. Maybe if you are also looking into making art for a living the blog will offer you some insight on how it is! If you want to join me on this journey that would be great and please do contact me !

  • do it. follow your dreams. never give up. do what you can with what you have and where you are. You only get one life. Don’t let expectations of others define who you are. Making money to live and living to making money are not the purpose of life. The purpose of life is to be present within every moment and doing exactly what you should be doing in order to be you. Find you and be that.

    • Thank you so much for your inspiring words and encouragement! I think you are absolutely right about it not being the only purpose in live and I certainly aware that my art is for me to pour my soul in and enjoy. I just hope to make it able to day that all day every day to a certain extend.
Thank you again for the lovely words!
